Student Education Program

Student Program at Flaherty Physical Therapy

The education and training of our current and future physical therapists is paramount to our mission at Flaherty PT. We are constantly supporting local high school, college and Doctor of Physical Therapy programs in New England and across the country. Having the right people knowing the best ways to help people is very important to our company. You can read through our many reviews online or on our web site. It’s because of our strong need to make sure that NICE people take WONDERFUL care of our patients. It’s just that simple!

Student Observation Time

We offer time in either of our clinics to work with high school or college level students to allow them to be able to learn about what physical therapy is all about. Many DPT programs require observation hours, and we are here to help you see what PT is all about.

If you are a student interested in PT as a potential profession, reach out to Kim Morgan, PT, DPT, COMT, DN1, 2 cert who is our Clinical Education Coordinator. She will take you into our office and will get you to observe what our PT’s do every day. We will also ask you to be involved in the care of the patient by talking with them, observing things around the clinic and helping the PTs with basic activities that simulate a “day in the life” of a PT.

To contact Kim Morgan, PT, DPT, COMT, DN 1, 2 Cert, please email her directly at kimm@flahertyphysicaltherapy.com

Clinical Students

Many of you who are a Doctor of Physical Therapy Student may need to find your own Clinical Experience. No Problem! We are here to help. We currently have relationships with the following DPT programs:

  • Mass College of Pharmacy and Health Services
  • Northeastern University
  • University of Rhode Island
  • University of Richmond
  • Tufts University

Our clinical experiences last somewhere between 8-12 weeks. We usually have each DPT student work with two Clinical Instructors (CI). We believe two is better than one actually!

We also make sure your experience is wider than just PT. We can have you observe acupuncture sessions, massage sessions, and we have you work with Parkinson’s patients in our partner at Rock Steady Boxing for some of your clinical time.

The ideals of our student program include the following 5 pillars:

1. WELL BEING: Our mission for our patients and our staff is: “we exist to empower people to live their best lives.” We don’t just treat a knee, we treat the person socially, physically, mentally and emotionally. We also want to make sure that you are taken care of too; both socially, physically, mentally and emotionally. We only do 1 on 1 40-minute sessions. We close by 7 pm. We offer training on the importance of changing people’s lives, not just with their PT treatments but with their well-being treatments. We value our TEAM.

2. EDUCATION: We offer FREE educational workshops monthly for our patients, so they are more aware of their problems. I always say, “we know more about the general operation of our motor vehicle than our body!” Our goal is to flip that. For our staff, we offer one on one mentoring, monthly small group meetings for training, monthly clinical education on PT, wellbeing and wellness management. We bring in outside continuing education to get you the training YOU NEED.

3. PROGRAMMING: Pelvic health. Pilates. Vestibular. Concussion management. Sports Program with our own return to sport criteria. Pediatric program. Parkinsons with a connection to a local rock steady boxing program. Dry Needling. Laser. We are always interested in bringing in programming that helps our patients but also allows our PT staff to expand and do what THEY LOVE.

4. LEADERSHIP: Through our one-on-one mentor training, or emerging leaders program or our team leadership training program, if more than just a PT is what you want, we have a plan for you.

5. WE CARE: We care about the wellbeing of our patients and our staff. We want everyone to have the ability to enjoy life, to live it to their fullest and to prosper in many ways. It’s all about our TEAM and they are rock stars that constantly kick ass.
